Bringing the employer perspective into career education
Schools already do important work helping students explore subjects, pathways and career options.
Thrive complements that work with 15 years of experience designing graduate, intern and early careers programmes for employers.
Ways Thrive can support your school.
Student presentations
Practical sessions that connect career decisions with the world students are preparing to enter.
Topics can include strengths, employer expectations, work experience, internships, graduate recruitment and how to make the most of university or training.
Parent information evenings
Helping parents understand how the transition from school to study and work is changing, and how they can support their child without increasing the pressure to have everything figured out.
Careers and subject-choice events
An additional employer and early careers perspective for students and families attending existing school careers events.
Presentation topics.
Sessions can be adapted to suit different year levels, audiences and school events.
Popular topics include:
Strengths and why they’re important. Understanding them, how they bring self awareness, and how to talk about them.
What employers look for: The strengths, behaviours and capabilities employers value when recruiting students, interns and graduates.
How employers hire for potential: Why employers use online assessments, interviews, group activities and work-based tasks, and what students can expect from each stage.
Preparing for internships and graduate roles: When students should begin looking, where opportunities are advertised and what they can do during tertiary study to become a stronger candidate.
Complementing work already happening in schools.
My background is in early careers rather than school-based careers guidance.
I’ve spent 15 years designing and leading graduate, intern and student programmes, including roles with Xero and FNZ, and I’m Co-Chair of the New Zealand Association of Graduate Employers.
That means I can give students a view of what happens further along the journey — how employers recruit, what they value and what young people can do during school and study to prepare.
The aim is to add another layer to the careers support students already receive, not replace it.
